Once the room was empty and the old kitchen demolished the first thing we did was start to decorate and then lay a new tiled floor to replace the old “ice rink” slippery floor!
Une fois la pièce vide et l’ancienne cuisine démolie, la première chose que nous avons faite a été de commencer à décorer puis de poser un nouveau sol carrelé pour remplacer l’ancien sol glissant “patinoire”!
After the floor I changed the oringinal plastic / PVC patio door for a new wood one, with an old style handle … In a late 19th century house the details count … and a future project is to build a lovely patio and barbecue behind the kitchen … to continue enjoying the sunsets!
Après le sol, j’ai changé la porte-fenêtre en PVC pour une nouvelle porte en bois, avec une poignée de style ancien … Dans une maison de la fin du 19ème siècle, les détails comptent … et un projet futur est de construire un joli patio et un barbecue derrière la cuisine … pour continuer à profiter des couchers de soleil!
Another thing we had to do was to renew all the plumbing coming in to the house, due to old lead pipes, and put pipes in to take water into the kitchen, along with laying the waste pipes. This meant massive work digging up the floor in the boiler room, as you can see from the first photo. One all the dust had settled from the digging, we started to build the kitchen cupboards .. that we had eventually purchased from IKEA.
Une autre chose que nous devions faire était de renouveler toute la plomberie entrant dans la maison, en raison des tuyaux en plomb, et de mettre des tuyaux pour amener l’eau dans la cuisine, ainsi que de poser les tuyaux d’évacuation. Cela signifiait un travail énorme pour creuser le sol de la chaufferie, comme vous pouvez le voir sur la première photo. Une fois toute la poussière retombée du creusement, nous avons commencé à construire les armoires de cuisine … que nous avions finalement achetées à IKEA.
And finally, after several weeks of work, eating pre-prepared microwave meals and going out for dinner, our kitchen was finished!
Et enfin, après plusieurs semaines de travail, de plats préparer chauffer aux micro-ondes et des sorties au restaurant pour dîner, notre cuisine était terminée!
